The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR) specifically regulation 4, requires an employer to identify and manage asbestos within the work place.

D A Brooks will always give you the most cost effective and common sense solution to any asbestos that may be present in your building whether it is large commercial premises or smaller office and private dwellings.

We pride ourselves on our professional but user-friendly, easy to understand asbestos surveys and asbestos reports. All of our asbestos risk assessment and asbestos testing is carried out following the guidelines set out in The Asbestos Survey Guides HSG264.

We strongly advise to have the survey undertaken as early as possible in the process of your enquiry/project, as certain asbestos materials are categorised as licenced by the Health and Safety Executive and this means that before asbestos removal can commence a 14 day notification period is required along with formal notification of the works.

There are two types of survey:

  • Management

  • Refurbishment & Demolition

Management Survey

Management surveys are standard surveys. Their purpose is to locate as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and extent of any suspect asbestos containing materials (ACMs) in the building which could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy, including foreseeable maintenance and installation works and to access their condition.

Refurbishment and Demolition Surveys

Refurbishment and demolition surveys are required before any refurbishment or demolition work can be carried out. This is a legal requirement under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR) and Construction, Design and Management regulations 2007. This type of survey is used to locate and describe as far as reasonably practicable, all ACMs in the area where the refurbishment work will take place, or in the whole building if demolition is planned. These surveys are fully intrusive and gain access to all areas, including those which may be difficult to reach.

Removals

D A Brooks can act as Principle Contractor - Construction Design Management (CDM), Subcontractor and can also work on one-off projects or long-term frameworks.

We are well versed in ensuring that all grades of asbestos are removed safely and submit all the necessary notifications and discuss the best time for work to be undertaken to ensure minimal disruption.

Although asbestos is a hazardous material, it can only pose a risk to health if the asbestos fibres become airborne and are then inhaled. Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) only release fibres into the air when they are disturbed. ACMs in a good sealed condition and left undisturbed will not release fibres into the air and will not cause exposure and spread.

Controlled stripping techniques reduce exposure and adhere to the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR) and the Approved Code of Practice and Guidelines (ACOPS).
